What can Claude actually do?
The honest answer: most everyday thinking and writing work, plus hands-on computer tasks if you let it. Concretely, people use Claude to:
- Draft and improve writing: emails, letters, plans, summaries
- Read files for you: hand it a PDF or spreadsheet and ask questions about it
- Think through decisions: lay out options, tradeoffs, and next steps
- Do computer work with permission (paid plans): organize folders, work in a browser, complete multi-step tasks in Cowork
- Build simple things in the Code tab: no programming or terminal required
How much does Claude cost?
There is a real free plan: chatting, file uploads, and Projects all work on it, with usage limits that reset over time. Paid plans raise the limits and unlock the hands-on tools, Cowork and the Code tab. Our advice for beginners is to start free and only upgrade when you feel the limits.
Is Claude hard to learn?
No, but most people plateau at "I typed a question once." The difference between that and getting real value is small and learnable: knowing which tool to use, how to ask clearly, and how to hand Claude your files. That is exactly what this site teaches, free, one short lesson at a time.
How do I start?
Two steps. First, create a free Claude account and install the app; Lesson 0 walks you through it click by click on Mac or Windows. Then work through the lessons in order; each one is built around something real from everyday life and takes about 20 minutes.
